The rumor mill

The rumor mill is churning. I have not been able to substantiate this rumor with any reliable source, but it is spreading nonetheless.

Rumor has it that Olmert is coming under tremendous pressure internally from MKs and Ministers from Kadima (even from among those who publicly have come out in support of him) to resign. they are concerned that he is bringing Kadima down with him. they feel Kadima can still be saved, but only if Olmert goes immediately. If he waits until August (when the final Winograd report will be released) to resign, they are worried the damage to Kadima will be irreparable.

So the rumor is that he is caving into the pressure and tonight or tomorrow will announce his resignation.
I have no idea if there is any basis for this rumor, but I wanted to share it with you.

  1. Rafi,

I don't think that Kadima can be saved. They are a group of opportunists with nothing in common except their thirst for power. Let the Kadima crumble!

  2. I agree with you. But they think so. Or maybe it is just what they say publicly while they negotiate with Bibi privately the terms of their returning to the Likud. I don't know.
I did hear on the radio a few days ago (pre-Winograd) a Kadima MK was talking about Olmert's options and he said that Kadima is not Olmert. He is just one person, right now the PM. If he goes there is still plenty of other good people in Kadima. Of course he was syaing that they will not let oLmert bring Kadima down.

Will Kadima crumble? I think so, you think so and many others do as well. That does not mean they think so.

  3. Rafi, thanks for the political commentery. Mainstream israeli media just doesn't cut it for me.

  4. I saw in your previous post that he has (or had at one point) a 3% approval rating?! Wow, I didn't think it got much worse than W's numbers.

  5. actually the numbers do get worse. The 3% number I used was from the polls of two weeks ago. He is now polling at 0%. It was in all the news media yesterday. IT must be some sort of record.

  6. How on earth can you poll at 0%? It seems like his family and friends would at least show him a little love. Maybe even a pity vote or two from his own party. 0%. Oh my!
