Quote of the Day

The time has come to open all the issues of religion and State, because the reality has changed. The time has come that all the groups and all the influencers in the country will sit together in discussion and mutual respect and we should decide together in creating a new totality in Israel regarding the issues of State and religion. HaBayit HaYehudi is the bridge between the different parts of society... [we will] change Sunday to be a vacation day designated for entertainment and buying, while at the same time Shabbos will become a day "of special character", on which work will be forbidden..

Huh? How's that separating religion and state. Sounds like theocracy to me.

  2. not theocracy, but more like the blue laws. By "work" I dont think h means it will be illegal to turn off the lights, build a fire, go on a tiyul, etc... rather, it will be an official day of no work - businesses will be closed, such as on election day or Yom Haatzmaut. thats how I understand it.

  3. In a modern country that is completely ridiculous. It is completely up to each business owner to decide whether they want to open their business on a particular day.

    1. Not on Israel Independence Day, for example. Is that different?

    2. It's completely different. An annual national celebration is not the same in any way as a weekly imposed religious day of rest.

  5. I know. I am not saying if they could do it so could we. I am against religious legislation (I dont want to say across the board, but in general). I am just saying that such a law doesnt necessarily make it a theocracy.
