Cinema City Jerusalem to be closed on Shabbos

In case you are wondering what happened with the Supreme Court hearing yesterday, Purim, regarding the petition to open the new Cinema City movie theater in Jerusalem on Shabbos...

according to Kikar, the Supreme Court decided to leave the decision in the hands of Iryat Yerushalayim (Jerusalem City Hall) as to whether or not the theater would be allowed to open on Shabbos.

The Haredi askanim are seemingly satisfied with that decision, as they believe the city council will decide to keep the theater closed on Shabbos, as was previously agreed upon. Of all the comments quoted, the most interesting one is that of City Councilman and Mayoral Substitute Yossie Deutsch (Agudas Yisrael) who pointed out the irony that the lawyer who filed the petition and is insisting on the theater being open on Shabbos, Yossi Havilio, is the same one who originally approved the contract on behalf of City Hall in which it was agreed upon that the theater would be closed on Shabbos.

So, Cinema City in Jerusalem will seemingly remained closed on Shabbos.

  1. I hope that you are happy about this development even though the mizrachi in the council wasn't opposed.
